Instead of a PTA or PTO, we have a PVA (Parent Volunteer Association). Why? We feel we can accomplish all the same functions & purposes of a PTO through a PVA without the hassle of dues, monthly meetings, (usually sparsely attended) and officers (no one wants to be one).  At the beginning of the year we send home a letter asking parents to volunteer for various activities, committees and opportunities at the school.
